1121 Apothecary is now Good Alchemy!
Why? Lemme tell you…
A few years ago, my husband and I moved from Oregon to my home state of Ohio. I came to learn that it’s actually illegal in Ohio to use “apothecary” in a business name if you’re not selling actual prescription pharmaceuticals.
Weird, right?
I don’t think that in 2024 many make that association, but here we are. I consider myself a badass revolutionary radical, but act in opposition of Section 4729.36 of Ohio Revised Code? NEVER. I also over-estimated the number of folks actually familiar with the word at all, and even more that weren’t solid on the spelling. People not being able to understand or spell your business name: not ideal. Don’t get me started on the whole 1121 = Eleven Twenty One confusion.
So, I had to change it.
This suits me just fine. I decided that this was the perfect opportunity to overhaul my entire brand to better enable me to create the kind of designs and products that I most enjoy creating. Seeing as it’s just lil old me (Amy) doing ALL THE THINGS over here, my brand is me and I am my brand. So, I’m embracing that and only doing and making things that I like. Of course, I hope you like them too, but no hard feelings if that’s not the case.
-What’s new, what’s changing and what’s staying the same.-
New:
A complete branding overhaul with a victorian-inspired aesthetic, including products packaged in beautiful, high quality glass or metal “forever” containers that can be refilled, reused or upcycled.
New and innovative products. The first to be gemstone serums. I am IN LOVE.
Candles and hangable mineral scent sachets. As far as candles, expect a regular line, always in the same container, as well as candles poured in vintage vessels.

Home goods! Look for upcycled art pieces, handmade decor and select vintage. I’m combining all of my creative ventures under the Good Alchemy name. You’re gonna adore my upcycled vintage china.
Single run, OOAK, never-to-be-made-again batches in rare antique and vintage packaging.
A shiny new website with all the bells and whistles.
A blog, The GOOD News, because I think people care about what I have to say.
Changing:
Your old favorites will have a new look and possibly a new name. ie Kookie Dough is now Marzipan, Blacklight Poster = The Alchemist’s Coat, The Man Bar = The Boxer, and so on.

The same commitment to sustainability, but with a focus on reuse and upcycling. We all mean well, but the vast majority of what we put in our blue bins ends up in a landfill. I won’t give you a %. You’re nice enough to be reading my email, so I don’t wanna ruin your day.
Same:
Still vegan. Still cruelty-free. Still natural. Still prioritizing organic ingredients.
Refill options in minimal, light biodegradable packaging.

Expect to see items popping up in the Etsy shop in the pretty near future. The website is slated to be done at the end of April, so you can have time to buy your Mom all the cool stuff she deserves.
